My Story
As far as being a celiac goes, I’m pretty much a ‘newcomer,’ having only received an official diagnosis in 2021.
Nevertheless, I have experienced many of the challenges and tribulations of the gluten-free lifestyle, both pre and post-diagnosis.
I set up this site to share my experiences and help others struggling with going gluten-free.
My Journey to Diagnosis
My story goes back to 2019 when I was on holiday in Portugal with a friend when they noticed I was making more than my fair share of trips to the toilet.
I initially wrote it off as a stomach bug or something I’d eaten that hadn’t agreed with me.
However, after a few more episodes of gastrointestinal distress, I decided to go to the doctor when I got home and get myself checked out.
Initial tests with my GP identified a celiac marker in my blood, so they eventually referred me to a local hospital to get an endoscopy and a flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Unfortunately, no definitive diagnosis could be made from these tests, only a ‘possibility’ of celiac disease.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, I decided to push for a second test, only to receive another ‘maybe’ after a long wait due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ultimately, I decided to go private and get a diagnosis once and for all.
Getting Answers
By mid-2021, I’d finally received the answers I was looking for and was officially diagnosed with celiac disease and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
Not exactly ideal, sure. But it was nice to finally have the confirmation that I needed to get my health and well-being back on track.
My Dedication to Helping Others
It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, to say the least, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it.
I’ve now made it my mission to help others in a similar situation and make their gluten-free journey a little bit easier.
If you’re reading this and thinking, ‘this sounds like me’, I hope you find my site helpful.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to chat about going gluten-free. I’m always happy to help where I can! 🙂
